Can You Put a Trampoline on Artificial Grass in Australia
Trampolines and artificial grass work well together if you anchor properly and expect some flattening. What to know about safety, cushioning and setup.

Short answer, yes, with a few things to plan for
A trampoline sits on artificial grass just fine, and it is one of the more common places synthetic lawn ends up in an Australian backyard. The turf gives a cleaner, mud-free base than a real lawn that gets pounded flat and boggy under a trampoline's four legs, and there is no grass to kill off underneath it. The two things worth thinking through before you set one up are anchoring, because a synthetic surface behaves differently to soil, and flattening, because a trampoline's legs carry real weight down onto a small footprint for months at a time.
Neither issue rules turf out. Both change how you'd handle a trampoline compared with putting it on plain dirt or a paved slab.
Anchoring on turf is not the same as anchoring in soil
The usual way to secure a trampoline against wind is a set of ground anchors, corkscrew-style stakes that wind down into the soil at an angle and tether to the frame with straps. That works because the anchor bites into real earth. Artificial turf sits over a compacted aggregate base, typically a road-base or crusher-dust layer compacted hard specifically so it does not shift, and that base does not offer soil-style grip to a corkscrew anchor. Screwing one in can also puncture the turf backing at the entry point.
A few options handle this better on a turf base. Sandbags or water-filled weights on each leg work without touching the turf at all, and so does a weighted anchor kit built for hard or synthetic surfaces. If the trampoline is staying in one spot long-term, setting anchor points into the base itself before the turf goes down, a small paved or concreted pad under each leg with a fixed eyelet, gives the most permanent hold. Otherwise, a wind-rated anchor kit sized to your trampoline and checked against the manufacturer's own instructions is the safer generic option.
Standards Australia's AS 4989 covers trampoline safety aspects such as padding and structural testing, but it is a voluntary standard focused on the trampoline itself rather than a specific anchoring method for every ground surface, so the trampoline manufacturer's instructions are the primary reference for how to secure your model. If you are unsure which anchor suits a turf base, ask before you buy the trampoline, since fixing this after the base is compacted and the turf is glued down is far harder than planning for it upfront.
Flattening under the legs is real, and mostly cosmetic
Four trampoline legs each carry a share of the frame's weight plus everyone bouncing on it, concentrated into a few small contact points that barely move for the life of the trampoline. Turf fibres under sustained point load compress over time, the same way a heavy pot plant or an outdoor table leg leaves a flattened ring in short-pile carpet. You will see it eventually, most visibly on the budget end of the market where pile density is lower and there is less fibre to spring back.
A few things reduce how much it matters. The easiest fix costs nothing: move the trampoline every few months, even just a few centimetres, so the load doesn't sit on exactly the same four points indefinitely. Leg caps or small pads under each foot spread that load over a wider area instead of four narrow points. Once the trampoline moves, or comes down for good, brushing the flattened patch with a stiff broom against the direction of lie brings back most of the pile's stand-up, though a spot compressed under fixed load for years recovers more slowly than a lightly worn path. Cushioning: turf helps, but it is not a certified safety surface
Trampolines already come with their own padding, mat springs and, on newer nets, an enclosed jumping surface designed to keep falls inside the frame. What turf changes is the ground around and under the trampoline, which matters for anyone who tumbles off the edge or steps off awkwardly. A synthetic lawn over a compacted base with sand infill has noticeably more give than bare dirt, a paved slab or a summer-baked real lawn, and it stays soft and dry in wet weather when a real lawn underneath a trampoline usually turns to mud.
That said, standard landscape turf over a standard base is not an engineered impact-rated surface the way certified soft-fall rubber under playground equipment is. If you want more cushioning specifically for trampoline falls, a shock pad installed underneath the turf, in the ring where someone is most likely to land if they come off the edge, adds real give beyond what turf and sand infill provide on their own. Ask any installer quoting a shock pad to show its test documentation for the fall height you are planning around, rather than taking cushioning claims on faith. Sizing the turf for a trampoline circle
Trampolines are round, and turf ships in rectangular rolls at a fixed 3.71m width, in set lengths such as 5m, 10m, 15m or a full 20m roll depending on the product. There is no cutting a roll to a circular size before it ships. In practice this rarely matters: you order a rectangle a bit larger than the trampoline's footprint plus a metre or so of clearance all round (checking your trampoline's own clearance instructions, since taller frames need more), then cut the circle on site once the turf is down, the same way you would cut around a garden bed edge or a paver. A denser pile resists this better than a thin, sparse one, which is worth factoring in if the trampoline is going to be a permanent fixture rather than moved around the yard.
Can I use standard ground stakes to anchor a trampoline into artificial turf?
Standard corkscrew-style soil anchors are not a great match for a turf base, because the ground underneath is compacted aggregate rather than loose soil, and driving a stake through the backing can puncture it. Does artificial grass get too hot under a trampoline in summer?
